Polymer Char CRYSTEX® QC is an automated instrument for the determination of the soluble fraction
in polypropylene and other polyolefins. It is based on the TREF (Temperature Rising Elution Fractionation)
technique and has been developed for continuous operation in manufacturing plants. The soluble fraction
results of CRYSTEX® QC show an excellent correlation with those obtained with the gravimetric method for
a wide selection of PP resins, with the added advantage that CRYSTEX® QC has better reproducibility thanks
to the automation of the system. The key features of CRYSTEX® QC include fully-automated analysis of the
soluble (amorphous) fraction in polypropylene and other polyolefins, sample analysis every 2.5 hours
(including dissolution and rinsing time) without manual operation, no need for accurate weighing of
sample nor manual solvent handling, no external filtration nor solvent evaporation required.
CRYSTEX® QC is a fully automated instrument that measures the soluble fraction of polypropylene.
It eliminates the need for accurate weighing of samples or manual solvent handling, making it ideal
for use in process control and quality control laboratories.
The instrument can analyze one sample at a time in a cycle that lasts 2.5 hours, including dissolution
and self-cleaning. However, the analysis time can be reduced to 1.5 hours for consecutive samples, as
the instrument can overlap their dissolution step.
In addition to measuring the soluble fraction, CRYSTEX® QC also measures the ethylene content and
intrinsic viscosity of the soluble fraction, the crystalline fraction, and the whole sample. This
information can be used to characterize the properties of polypropylene and to ensure that it meets
the required standards.
CRYSTEX® QC is included in the ISO 16152:2022 standard, which means that it is a reliable and accurate
method for measuring the soluble fraction of polypropylene.
