CRYSTEX® 42 is a high-throughput and fully-automated approach for obtaining the
soluble fraction in polypropylene and copolymers. It stands as a modern alternative
to the traditional gravimetric or wet chemistry method based on xylene solubility.
CRYSTEX® 42 uses the separation capability of the TREF Technique to quantify the
Soluble Fraction in Polypropylene. It is a reliable instrument for continuous operation
in the manufacturing plant laboratory, with minimum bench-space and utilities requirements.
CRYSTEX® 42 has a high-temperature autosampler with 42 positions that can analyze samples
in 20mL vials. This system eliminates the need for manual handling of solvents and operates w
ith less flammable solvents than Xylene (TCB or oDCB), which increases the safety level in
the laboratory.
CRYSTEX® 42 is a fully automated instrument that eliminates the need for manual weighing
of samples or handling of solvents. This makes it ideal for use in process control and quality
control laboratories.
In addition to measuring the soluble fraction, CRYSTEX® 42 also measures the ethylene content
and intrinsic viscosity of the soluble fraction, the crystalline fraction, and the whole sample.
This information can be used to characterize the properties of polypropylene and to ensure that
it meets the required standards.
CRYSTEX® 42 is fully automated and can perform unattended analysis of a large batch of samples,
saving significant time and manpower.
The first sample can be dissolved and fully analyzed within 3 hours. All subsequent samples can
be analyzed every 2 hours.
The CRYSTEX® method is included in the ISO 16152:2022 standard as an automated method for the
determination of xylene-soluble matter in polypropylene.
CRYSTEX® 42 shows an excellent correlation with the classic gravimetric method, while obtaining
better reproducibility thanks to its full automation.
