Precision Gas Physisorption & BET Surface Area Analysis
Surface area and pore morphology are vital parameters influencing the chemical reactivity, adsorption capacity, mechanical stability, and transport properties of advanced materials. The AMI Instruments Gas Adsorption Portfolio provides high-precision vacuum-volumetric measurement systems designed to resolve everything from routine quality control to high-resolution micropore characterization.
Standard Key Capabilities & Applications
- Specific Surface Area Measurement: Single-point and multi-point BET surface area, Langmuir surface area, and Statistical Thickness Surface Area (STSA).
- Comprehensive Pore Analysis: Full adsorption and desorption isotherms, total pore volume, mesopore distribution via BJH method, and fine micropore resolution using Horvath-Kawazoe (HK), Saito-Foley (SF), and Density Functional Theory (DFT/NLDFT) models.
- Versatile Material Characterization: Tailored for heterogeneous catalysts, battery and energy storage materials, Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), zeolites, activated carbons, ceramics, and pharmaceutical powders.
- Wide Range of Adsorbates: Supports standard and specialized gases including N2, CO2, Ar, Kr, H2, O2, CO, and CH4.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Selecting the right AMI model depends on your laboratory’s primary sample type, required pore size measurement range, and sample throughput needs:
- Choose the AMI Sync Series if your primary requirement is high-throughput screening and multi-sample BET surface area testing for routine QA/QC or high-volume academic labs. It handles up to 4 ports per unit (expandable to 12 via LAN) using a shared 3-liter Dewar that provides over 90 hours of uninterrupted analysis.
- Choose the Matrix 1000 Series if you need a flexible, modular system that can mix mesopore and micropore testing across independent analysis stations. It is ideal for multi-user facilities, active catalyst research, or applications requiring optional harsh chemistry/vapor sorption passivations.
- Choose the Micro 300 Series if your primary focus is high-resolution micropore characterization (< 2nm) in MOFs, zeolites, or carbon adsorbates. It offers dedicated Turbo Molecular pumps (10-8 Pa vacuum) and 0.1 Torr pressure transducers across 3 independent ports with 3 in-situ degassing stations.
Featured Product Lineup for Surface Area and Porosity Analysis
The AMI Sync Series is engineered for high-efficiency laboratories that require speed, accuracy, and scalability. Available in 1-, 2-, or 4-station configurations, the Sync series utilizes a shared large-capacity 3-liter Dewar flask (enabling over 90 hours of uninterrupted analysis) and supports simultaneous P0 measurement. It features an ultra-compact footprint, anti-contamination filtration, and optional CryoTune™ temperature control.
The Matrix 1000 Series is a next-generation, highly customizable physisorption platform. Each unit houses up to 4 fully independent analysis stations—each with dedicated dosing, vacuum, and sensor packages. Laboratories can mix and match mesopore and high-resolution micropore stations within the same instrument. Units can be chained together up to 3 units (12 ports) and include integrated high-temperature degas furnaces with active pressure feedback.
The Micro 300 Series is specifically optimized for ultra-low pressure micropore distribution testing (< 2nm). Equipped with 3 independent analysis stations and 3 in-situ degassing ports, the Micro 300B and 300C models feature dedicated Turbo Molecular pumps (ultimate vacuum 10-8 Pa) and high-sensitivity 0.1 Torr pressure transducers. It is the premier choice for research on MOFs, molecular sieves, and advanced carbon materials.
