SOLUBLE FRACTION ANALYSIS
The analysis of the amorphous fraction is a fundamental task in the production of polypropylene. It provides a measurement of the small amounts of undesirable low tacticity and low molar mass fractions in homopolymer resins, which have significant influence on the polymer properties and processing. Polymer Char instruments offer automated soluble fraction analysis in polypropylene using Crystallization Analysis Fractionation (CRYSTAF) and Temperature Rising Elution Fractionation (TREF) separation mechanisms
CRYSTEX® QC and CRYSTEX® 42 are analytical instruments designed to measure the Soluble Fraction percentage in a fully automated way. CRYSTEX® QC is based on the Temperature Rising Elution Fractionation (TREF) technique, performed in a two-step cycle to separate the soluble fraction from the crystalline matrix and analyze them independently. CRYSTEX® 42 is also designed to measure the Soluble Fraction percentage in a fully automated way with high throughput incorporating a high-temperature autosampler with 42 positions.

The CRYSTEX® method is an automated method for determining the xylene-soluble matter in polypropylene that is equivalent to the manual gravimetric method. It is included in the ISO 16152:2022 standard, which is equivalent to the ASTM D5492 and ISO 6427, Annex B standards.

Soluble Fractionation Products
The CRYSTEX® QC instrument is an efficient and reliable instrument for the automation of the Soluble or Amorphous Fraction determination in polypropylene copolymers.
The CRYSTEX® 42 from Polymer Char is a fully automated solution for big capacity measurement of soluble fraction in polypropylene and copolymers.
CRYSTEX instrument is considered a breakthrough technology automation of the amorphous fraction in polypropylene copolymers, also referred to as xylene solubles measurement in polypropylene copolymers. The crystalline and amourphous fractions are separated through dissolution – crystallization temperature cycle within closed stainless steel vessels (up to three samples can be analysed at a time).
